  • Offensive Cyber Operations Abroad Influence US Congressional Legislation, by Lori Cole - ISSA member Blue Ridge and Triad of NC Chapters and Kory Fear - ISSA member Triad of NC Chapter. Recent offensive cyber operations conducted in the Middle East have prompted US congressional legislative reform. Electronic warfare conducted by United Arab Emirates sponsored cyber group Project Raven against journalists and human rights activists has served as a catalyst for the enactment of an amended 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, which aims to curb similar activity in the future.
  • Cyber Trends of 2019 and What They Mean for 2020, by Mamady Konneh and Jeremy Swenson - ISSA members, Minnesota Chapter. This article discusses important cyber tech trends from 2019 and what can be learned from them to improve IT security, processes, and data protection in 2020, including examples of how and where they occurred, what business implications exist, and relevant mitigations.

  • Cyber Professionals Can Be the Best Cyber Teachers, by Brian Ngac - ISSA member, Northern Virginia Chapter. For longer than I can remember, I've heard many say that there is a cybersecurity workforce shortage as well as a cybersecurity skills shortage. Perhaps teaching at the higher education institutes will benefit both the future and current (you) cyber workforce.

  • Detecting Server-Side Request Forgery Attacks on Amazon Web Services, by Sean McElroy - ISSA member, North Texas Chapter. Cloud service providers offer significant benefits to organizations. However, even mature firms have failed to detect some of the most significant breaches caused by a server-side request forgery (SSRF) security incident. This article discusses four strategies that detect real-time SSRF activity within an Amazon Web Services environment.

  • The Python Programming Language: Relational Databases, by Constantinos Doskas - ISSA Senior Member, Northern Virginia Chapter.This article continues our discussion on database programming by exploring methods of analyzing data loaded in database tables. In addition, we will be creating special database structures called VIEWS.
